 Friends of the BCPA, Invites you and your work to ArtGasm 2021: “Grimm Fantasy” at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts Ballroom, 600 N East St., Bloomington, IL. Art Exhibit from October 16, 2021 6:00-8:00PM.

“Grimm Visions” is a fine art exhibition featuring local artists of the Bloomington-Normal community that explores the concepts of old fairy tales and their place in creating fear or imagery that invokes darkness, the unknown, & the macabre.

Concept

Artists are encouraged to submit original 2D-3D visual art work in any medium (not limited to paintings, sculpture, drawings) that explores the darkness in fairy tales or life in one of these 4 categories.

 

  1. Original Brothers Grimm Tales

  2. “Dark” Forests

  3. Macabre

  4. Abstract

The exhibit will be held as Part of Artgasm 2021: Grimm Fantasy held at the BCPA located at: 600 N East St. in Bloomington, as part of an event benefiting the BCPA Creativity Center.

Eligibility 

  • This show is open to all artists in McLean County, 16 years or older.

  • There is NO Submission fee.  

  • All styles of 2D and 3D artwork are accepted for consideration.

  • This event is sponsored by the City of Bloomington and we ask that your artwork is inclusive to all people. Friends of the BCPA have full discretion.

  • Art Drop Off, Thursday, October 14th from 4:30-6:00 PM

  • Event: Saturday, October 16th, 2021, 6 - 9pm

  • Art Pick Up, Monday, October 18th from 4:30-6:00PM.  

Purpose of Event:

ArtGasm, celebrates our local artists, brings our community together and brings awareness to the Bloomington Creativity Center. Friends of the BCPA, a 501(c)3 non-profit has launched a $5M Creativity Center Capital Campaign to renovate a former medical building into a modern, professional creative space for the Bloomington-Normal community. 

The center will serve creators and consumers of the arts of ALL ages. From providing space for local artists and arts organizations to expand and grow their skills and businesses; to the Creativity Center creating partnerships to offer classes; including but not limited to art therapy for veterans, at-risk youth, and people living with disabilities. 

From art classes to improv classes The space will also be a hub for artists of the visual and performing arts. The Bloomington Creativity Center will ensure that all people of all ages have access to the equipment, materials, and space to be creative! Details:

Work Media: 2D 3D Original works of Visual Arts in any medium including; but not exclusive to paint, photography, prints, etc. Framed or gallery wrapped and able to sit securely on an easel for display, sculpture, mixed media. 

Work Size: No larger than 3’ x 3’; 30 pounds maximum. 

NO Fee. Artists keep 100% sales conducted privately. Sales will not be conducted at the event. Art Exhibit will be free and open to the public. Artists will receive two (2) free tickets to the Artgasm 2021: “Grimm Fantasy”. Artists are welcome, but not required to be present, to donate any funds or percentage of any sales to the Creativity Center Campaign.

An Artists Listing with artwork and artist’s contact, social media,   information, will be provided to guests. 

Image Requirements: AN IMAGE OF YOUR ART IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION. 

  • Your JPG or PNG image should be <300dpi and <5mb. 

  • Image should not contain any frame unless directly a part of the image. 

  • Image should be labeled as LastName-FirstInitial-title.jpg  

Publicity: Friends of the BCPA is publicizing the event through radio, news outlets, and social media. Fliers and save the date email blasts will reach over 20,000 people utilizing City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation marketing & BCPA patrons. Over 500 guests will attend the event. Artists will receive recognition in our event programs and on our website. We encourage artists to post and share their artwork on social media using #ArtGasm2020 prior to the event. 

By submitting your work to this exhibit/event:

1) You acknowledge that all information provided above is correct.

2) You are the original artist/author of submitted work.

3) You allow BCPA Creativity Center to use your work in, but not limited to publications, marketing, Social Media “Artist Spotlight”, ‘penny’ popular voting “best of” category, etc and the like, prior to and through the event without expectation of monetary gain. All credits will go to the artist.

Event Venue: Ballroom, Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts, 600 N East St., Bloomington, IL. 

Event Date/Time: October 16, 2021 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM 

Entries Due: September 15, 2021. Register online or www.friendsofthebcpa.org

Selection Process: The first 35-40* will be accepted to show at ArtGasm 2020. Please note that you will be asked to upload a photo of your artwork to register. *Disclaimer: The amount of space we have for art depends on the size of the art being shown in the Artgasm Visual Art Exhibit Gallery. Application form will close when slots are filled.  

Notification to artist: You will be contacted via email by Monday, September 27, 2021 with additional information regarding show, procedures, and any changes due to Covid Phases.  Thank you for your patience. 

Accepted Artwork: Please bring your own easel/pedestal to display your work. Coordinate with LizBeth for three dimensional artworks that cannot be displayed on an easel and/or you are in need of a pedestal. 

Art Drop Off: Art work with easels/pedestals will be received at the BCPA on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 4:30 - 6:00pm. You or designee will need to check your art work in following all Covid guidelines. Additional information will be provided upon notification.

Pickup Artwork by: Pick up your artwork from the BCPA Monday, October 18, 2021 from 4:30-6:00 PM. All artwork stays in place until Monday. Please do not take artwork until signing it out on Monday with a load-out representative in order to protect and secure all works of art. 

Additional Information: 

An event program with artist contact information, titles and prices of the art (if your piece is for sale) will be available for all guests.

  • For uniformity in display we ask for no extra words (words IN art accepted) accompany your artwork for the show. Organizers will provide identification labels for the art. Please make sure your work has an identification label taped securely to the back.
