Friends of the BCPA, Invites you and your Centerpiece Creations to ArtGasm 2021: Grimm Fantasy at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts Ballroom, 600 N East St., Bloomington, IL. - October 16, 2021 6:00-9:00PM.

The BCPA’s Creativity Center is holding their annual event, ArtGasm, to celebrate creativity. They are looking for creative contributions to this year's ArtGasm 2021 themed from the stories of the Brothers Grimm. Your creation will be beautifully displayed for over 300 people to see and then auctioned. All proceeds go to the Bloomington Creativity Center. Examples include table-top fairy gardens, mini terrariums, baskets, 3D dioramas and anything your mind creates which explore the concepts of old fairy tales, particularly those of the Brothers Grimm.

Concept: 

Creatives are encouraged to submit original 3D creative table top work that explores fairy tales. Makers are encouraged to create sustainably by using:

 

  1. Found materials

  2. Repurposed materials

  3. Second hand stores like Restore, BroMenn Thrift, etc.

The centerpieces will decorate the Grimm Fantasy event & be auctioned to support the BCPA Creativity Center at Artgasm 2021: Grimm Fantasy held at the BCPA located at 600 N East St. in Bloomington, as part of the Artgasm event benefiting the BCPA Creativity Center on October 16th. For your donation, you will receive two tickets to the event.

Eligibility

  • This show is open to all Creatives, Makers, Gardeners, Florists and Artists in McLean County 16 years or older.

  • There is NO Submission fee.  

  • All 3D centerpieces are accepted.

  • This event is sponsored by the City of Bloomington and BCPA and we ask that your artwork is inclusive to all people. Friends of the BCPA have full discretion.

Important Dates: 

  • Final Registration deadline: September 7, 2021. 11:57pm.

  • Completed Photos of donated Centerpieces: September 26, 2021

  • Email confirmations & further information: October 3, 2021.

  • Centerpiece Drop Off: Thursday, October 14th from 4:30-6:00 PM

  • Event: Saturday, October 16th, 6 - 9pm

  • Pick Up: (for any not auctioned works) Monday, October 18th, 4:30-6:00PM.  

 

Why ArtGasm!?

ArtGasm celebrates our local artists & creatives, brings our community together and brings awareness to the Bloomington Creativity Center. Friends of the BCPA, a 501(c)3 non-profit has launched a $5M Creativity Center Capital Campaign to renovate a former medical building into a modern, professional creative space for the Bloomington-Normal community. Phase 1 has been finished, updating the roof and HVAC system. Phase 2 starts, the interior renovation, as funding is procured.

The center will serve creators and consumers of the arts of ALL ages. From providing space for local artists and arts organizations to expand and grow their skills and businesses; to the Creativity Center creating partnerships to offer classes; including but not limited to art therapy for veterans, at-risk youth, and people living with disabilities.

From art classes to improv classes, the space will also be a hub for artists of the visual and performing arts. The black-box theater will be a place for local performing artists to perform for our community and serve as an artist incubator. The Bloomington Creativity Center will ensure that all people of all ages have access to the equipment, materials, and space to be creative! Details:

Work Media: 3D Original work table centerpieces of mixed media, with or without live plants.

Work Size: Base no larger than 18” x 18”; Max height 18” 

NO Fee. All creators are welcome and encouraged to attend. As a thank you for your donations, Creators will receive two (2) complimentary tickets to Artgasm 2021: “Grimm Fantasy”!

A Silent Auction Listing with Creators name and information, will be provided to guests. Contact & social media links will be provided to guests at creator’s approval. Our goal is to showcase you!

Registration Image Requirements: AN IMAGE of the final work  IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION. 

Final Image Requirements: Image of final work due Sept 15th for promotional & Auction purposes

  • Your JPG, PDF or PNG image should be 72ppi and <5mb. 

  • Images should be labeled as LastName-FirstInitial-title.jpg

Publicity: Friends of the BCPA is publicizing the event through radio, news outlets, and social media. Fliers and save the date email blasts will reach over 20,000 people utilizing City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation marketing & BCPA patrons. Over 500 guests will attend the event. Creators will receive recognition in our event programs and on our website. We encourage creators to post and share their Creations on social media using #ArtGasm2021 prior to the event. 

By submitting your work to this exhibit/event: 1) You acknowledge that all information provided above is correct. 2) You are the original creator of submitted work. 3) You allow BCPA Creativity Center to use your work & images in, but not limited to publications, marketing, Social Media, etc. and the like, prior to and through the event without expectation of monetary gain. All credits will go to the creators.

Event Venue: Ballroom, Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts, 600 N East St., Bloomington, IL.
Event Date/Time: October 16, 2021 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM

Registration Due: September 7, 2021. Register online 

Selection Process: The first 35-40 will be accepted for ArtGasm 2021. Please note that you will be asked to upload an image of your detail sketch or completed centerpiece to register. All Final Photos are due by September 15, 2021.

Acceptance Notification to Creator: You will be contacted via email by Monday, September 20, 2021 with additional information regarding show, procedures, and any event changes.  Thank you for your patience. 

Centerpiece Drop Off: Centerpieces will be received at the BCPA on Thursday, October 14, 2021, 4:30 - 6:00pm. You or designee will need to check your centerpieces in following all Covid guidelines; mask, distancing, etc. Additional information will be provided upon acceptance notification.

Fun Awards: Awards will be given to categories and other specials by ‘celebrity’ judges.

Additional Information: 

An event program with Creator contact information, titles will be available for all guests.

  • For uniformity in display we ask for no extra words (words IN your creation accepted) accompany the centerpiece for the show. Organizers will provide identification labels for the centerpieces. Please make sure your work has an identification label taped securely to the bottom.
